Friday's regional sports roundup: U.Va. women overcome ODU in NCAA tennis first round

The Cavaliers ended the Monarchs’ season in Columbia, S.C., in the NCAA tournament’s first round. U.Va. (18-8), ranked 21st nationally, earned a chance to face No. 4 seed South Carolina at 10 a.m. Saturday in the round of 32. ODU (19-5), which reached No. 19 this season, came into Columbia ranked 40th.

U.Va. won the doubles point by taking a pair of sets. Oleksandra Andrieieva and Yulia Starodubtseva earned victories for ODU on singles lines 3 and 4, respectively, but Vivian Glozman and Sofia Munera won for U.
