Despite strong second half, ODU women suffer first soccer loss

Amanda Tredway scored twice Thursday night and former CAA rival Virginia Commonwealth defeated Old Dominion 3-1 in women’s soccer at Sports Backers Stadium.

It was the Lady Monarchs’ first loss of the season.

ODU, trailing 2-0 at halftime, cut the lead to one when Gabby Bentley, a sophomore from Australia, collected a rebound in the 79th minute and beat the Rams keeper to the lower right corner for her first collegiate goal.

Tredway’s goal in transition with about three minutes to play iced the game for VCU (2-0).

Though shots were 11-11 for the game, the Lady Monarchs (2-1) owned a 10-4 advantage in the second half.
