Connecticut's goal as time expires stuns ODU in field hockey

Anna Middendorf scored off a penalty corner with no time remaining Friday night, giving No. 5 Connecticut a 2-1 victory over No. 13 Old Dominion in the Big East field hockey opener for both schools at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Middendorf found the back of the net off a penalty corner in the third minute to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. ODU’s Erin Huffman scored her fourth goal of the season and knotting the score at 1-1 in the 63rd minute.

In the final 26 seconds, the Huskies (6-0) were awarded back-to-back penalty corners. Middendorf connected off the second attempt as time expired.
