College baseball: ODU, NSU set to open the season Friday

Virginia Wesleyan got things started early with games last weekend, but college baseball in South Hampton Roads gets into full swing beginning Friday, when Old Dominion and Norfolk State both begin their seasons.

ODU, picked to finish fourth in the 12-team Conference USA, plays a three-game series at the Bud Metheny Complex starting Friday at 3 p.m. against Long Island University.

Norfolk State opens at 5 p.m. with the first of three games at home against Villanova.

The Monarchs, who are coming off a 32-24 season, including a 15-15 C-USA mark, feature the pitcher/catcher combination of Sam and Kurt Sinnen.
