Big inning helps ODU rally, sweep series against Western Kentucky

Old Dominion scored seven runs in the eighth inning Saturday to rally for a 12-8 Conference USA baseball victory over Western Kentucky at Bud Metheny Complex.

The Monarchs (16-4, 3-0) swept the three-game series.

ODU trailed 8-5 entering the eighth. The Monarchs loaded the bases with one out, and Kyle Beam cleared them with a double down the right-field line. Beam, who went to third on the throw, and scored on Jason McMurray’s single to right.

After Nick Lustrino reached on a fielder’s choice, pinch-hitter Kurt Sinnen (Kellam High) tripled home two more runs. Pinch-hitter Darius Gillus then singled home Sinnen.
