Baseball | Southern Mississippi routs Old Dominion 17-5

Daniel Keating hit a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs and Tim Lynch belted a grand slam to spark an eight-run fifth inning Wednesday as host Southern Mississippi routed Old Dominion 17-5 on the first day of the Conference USA baseball tournament.

The game was shortened to seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

Dylan Burdeaux had three hits to pace a 17-hit attack for the Golden Eagles (37-18).

The Monarchs (32-23) scored all five of their runs in the top of the second on Kyle Beam’s two-run homer and Zach Rutherford’s three-run shot.
