"Worth it": Smith Jr. reflects on football journey as he enters senior season

Enoch Smith Jr. gazed at the beaming stadium lights.

The bright beacons reminded him he didn’t have to wait much longer.

Smith said the long drive stands out in his mind. He spent almost 12 hours traveling from Chicago, his home city, to Stillwater.

When he noticed the luminous Boone Pickens Stadium ahead of him, he knew he reached his new home.

After one season at Oklahoma State, Smith, a redshirt senior defensive tackle, is encouraging younger teammates. He is adopting defensive techniques the Cowboys are learning from new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. He is banding with energetic OSU teammates to prepare for a home season opener against Missouri State and embracing coach Mike Gundy’s “Cowboy Culture.
