Lindy Waters III stood at center court and draped a thick blanket over coach Mike Boynton’s shoulders, drawing applause from the fans who stayed in Gallagher-Iba Arena after the game.
Waters, a senior on the Oklahoma State men’s basketball team, led the Cowboys to defeat Yale 64-57 on Sunday afternoon. Then he and his family honored the people who have influenced and inspired him at OSU. Waters, who has Kiowa and Cherokee heritage, presented gifts to 16 individuals during an Honoring and Giveaway ceremony.
Earlier in the week, Waters explained the tradition’s significance.
“In my culture, something that we do very often is a Giveaway,” Waters said.
