STILLWATER — Isaac Likekele immediately accepted the invitation.
He heard the news from Mike Boynton, who had just received a phone call about Likekele during their spring workout. Boynton predicted Likekele would gladly say yes to USA Basketball’s offer, but he had to get the answer from his starting point guard.
He asked Likekele whether he wanted to attend a USA Basketball training camp.
“Most definitely,” Likekele said.
Likekele, then a freshman, hadn’t anticipated this. Elite basketball camp programs had typically overlooked him. In that moment, he became a contender for a spot on a 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup team.
