Oklahoma State announced its new head basketball coach on Friday afternoon, promoting long-time Brad Underwood assistant coach Mike Boynton to the position. The announcement ends what was a surprisingly brief coaching search. Brad Underwood left for Illinois last Saturday, Mike Holder conducted interviews on Thursday, and Boynton was named the coach on Friday.
Some fans are disappointed Doug Gottlieb didn’t get the job. Others might be mad OSU didn’t hire a big name guy, especially after enlisting the help of a search firm to assist with the process. But hiring Boynton is a secretly savvy move by athletic director Mike Holder.
