'We'll be back': Reasons for optimism, room for improvement after Nardo's first season as OSU's DC

HOUSTON – One play into the game, OSU's defensive game plan had a wrench thrown into it.

Jaylen Henderson, Texas A&M’s starting quarterback, completed an 11-yard pass on the game’s opening play but took a hit from defensive back Cameron Epps and was slowly walked to the locker room. Backup quarterback Marcel Reed, a dual-threat freshman, took over for the rest of the game.

“It was a little bit of a curveball,” said OSU coach Mike Gundy “…We hadn’t worked on a running quarterback at all in the last three and a half weeks.”

Reed had a nice game, but the Cowboy defense adjusted as it did all season with Bryan Nardo running the defense in his first season in Stillwater.
