Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire announced that redshirt freshman quarterback Will Hammond will make his second career start this weekend when the Red Raiders host Oklahoma State.
The decision comes after a week of uncertainty surrounding starting quarterback Behren Morton, who has been listed as questionable while dealing with lingering injuries. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Morton is expected to be available if necessary, marking a slight improvement from last week’s status, but McGuire made it clear that Hammond will once again get the first snap.
Hammond made his first career start in last week’s 26-22 loss to Arizona State, which was Texas Tech’s first defeat of the season.
