R.C. Slocum's addition to the playoff committee is good for the Big 12

The College Football Playoff committee announced three new members Thursday, and it’s basically good news for the Big 12. A Big 12 veteran is among the trio.

R.C. Slocum, who coached Texas A&M from 1989 through 2002, is among the three, along with Arkansas State athletic director Terry Mohajir and former Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno.

A&M joined the Southeastern Conference in 2012, but the Aggies were charters members of the Big 12 from 1996 until then. Slocum is highly respected in the game.

Slocum grew up in Orange, Texas, southeast of Houston. He attended McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana, entered high school coaching in Louisiana and in 1970 became a graduate assistant for Vince Gibson at Kansas State.
