There was a moment during each round when Donnie Darr went from the supporter to the supported.
The Oklahoma State assistant coach walked every hole of the NCAA men’s golf regional a couple weeks ago with Hayden Wood. Darr was there to assist with yardages, club selection and confidence. He was there to help the Cowboy senior.
But about mid-way through each round, Wood reciprocated the care.
“You doin’ OK?” the golfer would ask, looking his coach in the eye.
“Yeah, I’m doin’ OK, buddy,” the coach would say. “Thanks.”
Darr, you see, is battling colorectal cancer.
