OSU football: Mike Gundy says Spencer Sanders could return for bowl game

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — OSU quarterback Spencer Sanders’ thumb surgery was successful last Monday, and coach Mike Gundy says it’s possible the redshirt freshman could return in time to play in a bowl game at the end of December.

Gundy compared Sanders’ surgery to what New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees had earlier this season to repair the UCL in the thumb on his throwing hand. Brees missed five games.

But Gundy admitted that was about as detailed as he could get on Sanders’ operation.

“I don’t know what it’s called but I think there’s a ligament or something in there,” Gundy said.
