STILLWATER — Philip Redwine-Bryant rotated the snowglobe over and over. Each turn brought new frustration.

“I just give up,” he yelled as he pushed the snowglobe away with disgust.

He had wasted an hour. A white Pro Special 4 golf ball inside a snowglobe filled with liquid just wouldn’t rest atop the tee. It hit the edge before falling away, each time teasing the young boy.

A calm voice perked up, one that Redwine-Bryant, now a linebacker at Oklahoma State, has never forgotten.

“No, no, you don’t give up,” said Lt. Col. Daniel Holland. “You never give up in anything that you try.
