OSU football: Gundy calls Pickens after victory, agrees on green bananas stance

STILLWATER — Friday morning, hours after the Oklahoma State football team opened its revamped stadium with a victory, coach Mike Gundy sat on his porch, drank some coffee and pulled out his phone to call the man that stadium is named for.

He got Boone Pickens’ voicemail, but two of OSU’s most powerful figures connected Sunday, and Gundy shared the details of the new experience inside Boone Pickens Stadium thanks to the 6,160-square-foot video board that made its official debut in Thursday's 58-17 victory over Missouri State.

Pickens, the university’s most supportive booster, released a statement Wednesday that he planned to attend Thursday’s opener and each subsequent home game, but he was unable to make it after feeling “exhausted and unsteady” before his flight out of Dallas-Fort Worth.
