Following the win over South Alabama in the second week of the season, Gundy expressed his concern over the team’s discipline. That night, it was a pair of targeting penalties and other 15-yard fouls that particularly irked the coach.
In Saturday’s loss to Texas Tech, discipline was again among Gundy’s topics of frustration, though it didn’t center as much around penalties.
Special teams struggles were noticeable, with a muffed punt, a missed field goal and a wasted timeout prior to a third-quarter punt.
“We weren't disciplined,” Gundy said. “When you're a good team — I think we're a good football team — but you're not a great football team, those things make the difference: special teams, turnovers, missed assignments, and that's the same thing I've said.
