OSU football: Boone Pickens statue to be unveiled before Cowboys' game vs. Texas Tech

Coming soon to Boone Pickens Stadium — a statue of the man who helped build the home of Oklahoma State football.

OSU announced Thursday that it would honor its late benefactor with a 9-foot-tall bronze statue outside the stadium that bears Pickens' name. The school will unveil the statue before the Cowboys' game against Texas Tech on Nov. 28 in Stillwater.

Enid-based artist Harold Holden, who sculpted the statue, also created the kneeling cowboy monument at Gallagher-Iba Arena that honors the 10 lives lost in the 2001 OSU basketball plane crash.

Pickens, a native of Holdenville who died last year, donated about $600 million to his alma mater over the years, including a $165 million gift in 2005 that was the largest gift for athletics in NCAA history.
