OSU basketball: Takeaways from Cowboys' 66-64 loss to Charlotte

The Oklahoma State basketball team began its second season under coach Mike Boynton with a disappointing 66-64 loss to Charlotte on Saturday.

The Cowboys led by as many as 24 and blew an 18-point halftime lead as Charlotte guard Jon Davis banked in a go-ahead 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left. OSU had won 23 straight season opener.

A questionable flagrant

Leading 64-61 with 4.2 seconds left, Cowboy junior Lindy Waters fouled Davis to prevent him a taking a game-tying 3-pointer. The seemingly run-of-the-mill foul was instead ruled a flagrant, so in addition to Davis taking (and making) two free throws, Charlotte got the ball back.
