OSU basketball: Cowboys hold off Oral Roberts

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State’s season opener had it all.

A five-star recruit in the stands a week before signing day. An electric crowd looking to the future. And a closer-than-expected game that brought late drama.

The Cowboys edged Oral Roberts University 80-75 on Wednesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena, avoiding a sour note to a season of promise.

OSU (1-0) led by as much as 16 in the second half, but ORU (0-1) trimmed the deficit to one with less than 3 minutes remaining. From there, it became a game of possessions. Veterans Cam McGriff, Lindy Waters III, Thomas Dziagwa and Isaac Likekele iced the game by making 8 of 10 free throws in the final 58 seconds.
