Notebook: Montgomery pushes Cowgirls to victory

The Cowgirls got only one hit Saturday, but it was all they needed.

Second baseman Madi Sue Montgomery’s two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning proved to be enough in Oklahoma State softball team's 2-1 victory against Texas. Montgomery stood in the batter’s box facing an 0-2 count with two outs. Kristin Reasnor stood at first base.

Four pitches later, the count was full. Montgomery battled pitch after pitch, fouling off three consecutive balls, one nearly hitting a navy blue Toyota 4Runner in the parking lot beyond right field.

Montgomery made contact once more on the 10th pitch of the at-bat, sailing the ball toward the right-field pole outside Cowgirl Stadium, giving her team a 2-0 lead.
