Thomas Dziagwa stood at the free-throw line, having just made two shots.

He had one more shot. If he made it, the Oklahoma State basketball team’s fifth summer practice before its European tour was over. If he missed, Dziagwa and his teammates had to run. As the ball was on the tip of his fingers, someone at the scorer’s table hit the buzzer in attempt to force a miss. The ball bounced on the rim before going in, and Dziagwa’s teammates, whom had finished only their fifth practice as a team swarmed Dziagwa in celebration.
