Reader Randy Fletcher has a passion, and that passion is college basketball officiating. More specifically, Fletcher believes that some referees are overworked.
He has a point.
I thought of Randy on Tuesday night when I caught the end of the Indiana-Purdue basketball game. There in Bloomington, Indiana, was referee John Higgins.
Hey, I thought, I’ve seen Higgins recently. Where was it? Then I remembered. He called the OSU-TCU game on Monday night in Stillwater.
From Stillwater for an 8 p.m. Monday game to Bloomington for a 6 p.m. Tuesday game. That’s a tough turnaround. Just making it to tipoff can’t be easy.
