Josh Holliday and Mike Boynton had an easy job finding common ground.
Boynton, Oklahoma State’s new men’s basketball coach, grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and is a Yankees fan. Holliday, OSU’s baseball coach, is the older brother of outfielder Matt Holliday, who signed a one-year deal with the Yankees this offseason.
Shortly after Boynton was hired Friday, the pair exchanged text messages.
“I just told him I was excited for him,” Holliday said. “I remember when I was hired and the feeling of what that is and just wanted to let him know that there’s a lot of people here rooting for him that are committed to the school, committed to all that this stands for and to feel that support and know that other people care for you is a good feeling.
