Early matches test Cowboys' depth

Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith recognizes that injuries can take a toll.

After OSU’s victories last weekend against No. 22 South Dakota State and No. 11 Minnesota, it goes into the weekend of its first home dual with a confident but thinly stretched team.

Boo Lewallen, who started at 149 for the Cowboys against SDSU, was forced to default after suffering an injury during the match. Lewallen will now be out anywhere from three to six weeks, Smith said. That injury, along with the absence of Preston Weigel at 197 to start the year, has presented a problem the Cowboys are handling with so many backups needing to step up and perform.
