Glenn Spencer is out as OSU’s defensive coordinator, and Mike Gundy could pick a stealth candidate to replace him. Did anybody see Mike Yurcich getting the offensive coordinator job five years ago? I mean, Gundy hired a guy from a school, Shippensburg, few had barely heard of. So anything’s on the table.
But Gundy has hired three defensive coordinators in his 13 years as head coach. One played at OSU (Bill Young). One had coached at OSU (Vance Bedford). Another was on the OSU staff (Spencer). All were in big-time football at the time of their hiring – Bedford was defensive backs coach of the Chicago Bears, Young was defensive coordinator at the University of Miami, Spencer was linebackers coach at OSU.
