The advice resonated with Trevor Boone.
Steven Irvine sat above the Oklahoma State dugout and watched Boone, his former star player, launch the baseball to right field in the direction of the Tulsa skyline. Irvine coached him at Tulsa Memorial High School, where Boone led his team to the state tournament in 2015.
As a former infielder in the Los Angeles Angels organization, Irvine said he prepared Boone for baseball at the next level and urged him to hit the ball to different places, keeping it from predictably going left every time.
Boone crushed the sixth-inning home run to the opposite side of the park when OSU faced Oklahoma on April 29, 2018, at Tulsa’s OneOK Field.
