IRVING, Texas — The conference championship game is returning to Big 12 football.
The conference's board of directors — headed by University of Oklahoma president David Boren — voted unanimously Friday to reinstate the championship football game for the 2017 season.
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said that data from consultants shown during the meetings showed an approximately 14 percent jump in the conference's chances of make the College Football Playoff versus a model with no conference title game.
In 2014, the first year of the CFP, both Baylor and TCU were edged out of the field by Ohio State.
