Growing up in Ponca City was one of the great blessing in my life. Sports was one major cause for Ponca City's pride when I was growing up. Football was king and very seldom a year went by the Cats were not playing in the state playoffs.
I was blessed to have a big brother who set the bar for me in football. Dick Bowman was not only a star on the Wildcat football team, but he and teammate Tom Catlin became starters on Bud Wilkinson's great Sooner teams of the 1950s.
