SMU athletic director Rick Hart was working at Oklahoma in 2004 when the Sooners and Florida State scheduled a football series.
Hart's father, Dave Hart Jr., was the AD at Florida State and legendary coach Bobby Bowden was piling up wins for the Seminoles. Bob Stoops, then Oklahoma's football coach, brought a cold dose of reality to the announcement, Hart recalled. The games were for 2010 and '11, Stoops pointed out.
"None of us will be there," Stoops told Hart. "Your dad won't be there. Bobby won't be there. I won't be there."
Stoops was mainly right, although he was still around for the game.
