NORMAN — OU's Maggie Nichols was named the winner of the AAI Award, the top award in women's collegiate gymnastics, Monday.
Nichols is the first Sooners gymnast to win the award, which is voted on by NCAA head coaches.
Nichols was one of six finalists for the award, the ninths consecutive season OU had a finalist. Until Monday, though, none had broke through and won.
Nichols is one of the most decorated gymnasts in collegiate history, having helped the Sooners to national championships in 2017 and 2019 and winning back-to-back all-around national titles in 2018 and 2019.
