Sooner Schooner crashes

NORMAN — The north end of Owen Field was the scene of a Sooner Schooner wreck Saturday afternoon.

The iconic Schooner, which has been pulled by two white ponies since 1964, was flipped on its side as it turned left toward the northeast tunnel in the second quarter. The Sooner Schooner drives onto the field to celebrate touchdowns. OU had just taken a 28-7 lead against West Virginia.

The Ruf/Nek and Lil’ Sis sitting in front of the wagon were slammed against the turf. The ponies pulled away with only the undercarriage attached to them.

Three people were evaluated and released by the medical staff at the stadium, according to OU.
