Skip Johnson hired as Oklahoma baseball coach

NORMAN—Oklahoma didn't have to go far to find its new baseball coach.

Just more than a week after parting ways with Pete Hughes, pitching coach Skip Johnson was elevated to head coach, OU athletic director Joe Castiglione announced Monday.

Johnson will be formally introduced during a Tuesday press conference.

Johnson served as OU's pitching coach last season after spending the previous 10 seasons as pitching coach at Texas.

But when he was passed over to replace longtime coach Augie Garrido, Johnson wound up in Norman as Hughes' pitching coach.
