For the first time since 1903, Texas and Oklahoma are playing one another in football twice in the same season.
That's hardly breaking news. The possibility of Longhorns vs. Sooners in Saturday's Dr. Pepper Big 12 championship game at AT&T Stadium had been on the minds of many fans ever since the final seconds ticked down on Texas' 48-45 upset victory over Oklahoma on Oct. 6 at the Cotton Bowl.
The Sooners-Longhorns rivalry dates to 1900, back to when Oklahoma wasn't yet a state and Texas' football team was referred to as "Varsity."
Both universities have tradition-steeped football programs boasting national championships and Heisman Trophy winners and, of course, many storied clashes in Dallas Cotton Bowl.
