Real Sooner Magic: Why OU's win against Texas was extra special for Randy Garibay

DALLAS — Texas had just taken the lead over Oklahoma when Ogbonnia Okoronkwo found the man in the red polo and white baseball cap on the Sooners' sideline.

“Don't worry, Colonel,” Okoronkwo told the man Saturday afternoon. “We're not losing this game. We promised you.”

Hours earlier, Okoronkwo and his teammates walked up to Randy Garibay — better known as The Colonel around the OU football program — as he sat in front of his locker, hugged him and made that promise. They were going to win the Red River Rivalry for him.

And they were going to win it for Michael, Garibay's younger brother who died suddenly of a massive heart attack a day earlier.
