BIMINI, BAHAMAS — Katelynn Thomas scored 22 points to help UAB defeat Oklahoma 89-84 in the first round of the Junkanoo Jam.
A trio of freshman led the Sooners, who fell to 2-2 on the season. Madi Williams scored a team-high 22 points, and Jessi Murcer and Taylor Robertson each scored 17.
OU struggled from beyond the arc and finished 3 for 17, while UAB (4-0) shot 12 of 36 from 3-point range.
Williams brought the Sooners within one point of the Blazers after making a pair of free throws with 1:09 remaining in the fourth quarter.
