NORMAN — Jon Kay has coached some splendid teams and outstanding players over the past couple decades at North Shore High School in suburban Houston.
His program is a Lone Star juggernaut. Dozens of major-college recruits. A pair of big-class state titles in the past five seasons. Even a national title from MaxPreps a year ago.
Kay has plenty of guys who've come through the program who he proudly claims.
Jalen Hurts isn’t one of those alums. The Oklahoma quarterback went to Channelview, only five miles from North Shore. The eastside schools are rivals, fueled by proximity and players who have known each other since elementary.
