NORMAN — Alex Grinch would just as soon not have to travel across the country looking for players who fit into his “Speed D.”
All things being equal, he’d prefer a quick car ride over hopping on a plane to try to snag a player.
Grinch understands the lure of a five-star quarterback in, say, Phoenix. Or a big-time defensive back recruit who has played on both coasts.
“I think sometimes there’s a misnomer as if our life gets so much easier if we can get a guy from hours and hours and hours away, thousands of miles away, as opposed to getting a quality player down the street only a couple hours,” Grinch said.
