OU football: Red River Showdown at Cotton Bowl up to Sooners, Longhorns after State Fair of Texas cancellation

The Red River Showdown will look different the next time the Sooners and Longhorns line up on the gridiron. They may play in front of empty stands. They may play in a stadium different from the Cotton Bowl. They may be playing in the spring of 2021.

The State Fair of Texas — which is home of the Cotton Bowl, where the two teams have played since 1932 during the fair — announced it will be canceled in 2020. The announcement comes on the same day in which Texas surpassed 200,000 total cases, and Oklahoma had its highest single day of new cases.
