OU football notebook: Du'Vonta Lampkin released from Texas letter of intent, eligible for Sooners

Whether Texas released Du'Vonta Lampkin from his National Letter of Intent or the NLI office granted the release, Lampkin's battle for immediate eligibility is over.

Oklahoma confirmed in a statement Thursday afternoon the highly recruited defensive tackle had been released and would be eligible for the Sooners immediately.

Even if he doesn't play this season, the release is crucial. Without it, Lampkin would've lost a year of eligibility as well.

Lampkin had signed with the Longhorns but a few months after signing day announced he would attend another school because he couldn't qualify academically at Texas.
