OU football: New quarterback battle just beginning in Norman

ATLANTA — Spencer Rattler was a little surprised when Lincoln Riley called his name Saturday night.

Late in Oklahoma’s 63-28 loss to LSU in the Peach Bowl, Riley told Rattler to warm up.

A few minutes later, it was Rattler — not Tanner Mordecai — who entered the game when Riley decided to get Jalen Hurts out.

It was the opening of the next Sooners’ quarterback competition now that Hurts’ time with the Sooners has ended.

And Riley said this competition will be waged between Rattler and Mordecai, not with another transfer added to the mix.
