OU football: Mark Andrews doesn't let Type 1 diabetes stop him from playing football

NORMAN — Mark Andrews must be vigilant.

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 9, Oklahoma's redshirt sophomore wide receiver has to be alert of his sugar level and be able to take quick corrective action when his numbers warrant.

“You're always having to test your blood sugar, always finding what your blood sugar's doing. Is it going low? Is it going higher?” Andrews said.

Andrews had a strong freshman season, with seven touchdowns on just 19 catches.

With Sterling Shepard having left for the NFL, Andrews figures to be a big part of replacing the immense production hole left by that absence.
