Spencer Rattler and Tanner Mordecai will battle for the starting job, though the expectation far and wide is that Rattler will win out in the end. Riley has a track record for extending quarterback battles deep into August. And though there was plenty of speculation centering on Mordecai after Rattler came in to replace Jalen Hurts in the Peach Bowl, Mordecai is likely to stay and go through the quarterback battle and likely serve as Rattler’s backup if he’s beaten out. Even if Mordecai decides to transfer, he might be better served by playing with the Sooners this season and working to graduate so he could be immediately eligible in 2021 — with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
