AUSTIN, TEXAS — Texas basketball employed a new assistant coach Saturday night.
Matthew McConaughey sat on the end of the Longhorns bench in a burnt orange suit complete with a similarly colored vest. For most of the game he leaned forward in his seat. During timeouts he stood on the outskirts of the huddle.
His presence might not have aided Shaka Smart's club, but it didn't distract in Texas' 75-72 win against No. 20-ranked Oklahoma.
“He hit me earlier in the week and said that he might come,” Smart said. “He actually gave the pregame talk.
