Orange Bowl: Oklahoma's Trey Sermon is an SEC running back in a Big 12 world

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — With Oklahoma trailing Texas Tech by double digits in the second quarter, Sooners coach Lincoln Riley decided not to put the ball in the hands of his eventual Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.

Kyler Murray lined up in the backfield that November night, but the snap instead went directly to sophomore running back Trey Sermon.

Sermon plowed straight ahead after catching the ball at the 10. But the last two were the most impressive, as he ran straight into Red Raiders defensive back Douglas Coleman III.

“He's always looking for someone to truck,” Oklahoma defensive lineman Amani Bledsoe said.
