Oklahoma track and field: Junior Tanner Williams writes about his marriage, coming out of the closet in online essay

NORMAN -- Oklahoma track and field junior Tanner Williams drove 553 miles to Santa Fe, N.M., to legally marry his now-husband, Scott Williams, last summer before gay marriage was legalized in the state.

The Ardmore native -- who pole vaults for the Sooners -- wrote about his marriage, his team's reaction to the news and what it was like to grow up gay in Oklahoma in an essay last week for Outsports.com.

Williams wrote that he came out of the closet publicly after Scott proposed to him in May 2014, and that his teammates and coaches were very accepting.
