Oklahoma Sooners Football: OU setting capacity at approximately 25 percent

According to a press release from OU Athletics, Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium will have a projected capacity of around 25 percent (or around 20,000) when the Oklahoma Sooners take the field in 2020.

“The capacity reduction will allow us to create distancing in the seating bowl,” said OU AD Joe Castiglione. “Other policies in the stadium will be introduced as we alter our operations as a result of the COVID-19 virus.”

Additionally, OU will be providing an app that will include the following features for attendees:

  • Mobile tickets
  • Parking assistance
  • A digital game program
  • The ability to order concessions in advance

There’s no way of knowing if OU or other schools across the country will eventually change course on this, but it’s somewhat reassuring that an attempt is being made to save some semblance of the fanfare that makes college football so unique (provided that adequate safety and sanitation measures are in place, of course).
