On Tuesday afternoon, Jalen Hurts was honored as the Big 12 Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week for his record-breaking performance in the season opener. As any follower of the Oklahoma Sooners should know, that’s not a bad way to start out a potential Heisman Trophy campaign.
In 2018, Kyler Murray tied the all-time Big 12 record with five player of the week honors throughout the season. It remains to be seen how many games Hurts will have that resemble his debut, but I’d say the likelihood of him repeating that performance is certainly not out of the question.
