Oklahoma softball: Sydney Romero a finalist for Collegiate Player of the Year

The Sooner senior is one of three players who have been named finalists for NCAA Division I softball’s most prestigious individual honor (equivalent to the Heisman Trophy in football, which an Oklahoma player has won each of the past two seasons).

The two other finalists for the award are UCLA pitcher Rachel Garcia and Megan Good, a pitcher for James Madison.

Certain to be a First Team All-American for a second time when this season has ended, Romero has been one of the best offensive players in the country in her final year of collegiate eligibility. She ranks fourth nationally in total bases (154) , 11th in hits (79), 16th in slugging percentage (.
